Essential Travel Gifts

  • by

Do you have that family member or friend who’s always thinking about their next trip? If you’re thinking about it right now you’re likely here to get some inspiration to find the perfect gift for a traveller.

In this travel guide I’ll provide some ideas that will work for male and female travellers. It’s likely that this won’t be the first guide that you’ve read, and you may see some like items in other guides. This is because, as travelers, we are awed by these guides and would like to receive them from those we love dearly.

However, I’ve tried to include as many cool and unique travel gifts as I could, gifts that I haven’t come across in other posts. Additionally, in this gift guide I’ve included a variety of eco-friendly gifts, many that don’t require the purchase of an actual item.

This list will contain more low-cost gift ideas that don’t cost you a lot. There are many guides that include gifts such as GoPro cameras and actual cameras that are slightly more expensive. Of obviously, if you’re lucky enough to be able to spend more on the people you love, you can always have a review of our camera backpack for some more expensive items for gifts.

Best Gifts for a Traveller

Top Techy Gifts for a traveler

1. Portable Charger or Solar Charger – An Essential Travel Gift

I’m sure that we’re all able to admit that our phones are always in our hands nowadays. When we’re travelling or on the go, we’re always taking photos or videos, and using social media or checking Google Maps for directions. Therefore, it’s no surprise that our phone batteries drain much quicker.

The portable charger you carry will only allow travellers to take photos on their phone. Being able to recharge your device is especially important when traveling abroad. You never know when they’ll need to check maps to avoid being lost, or to make an emergency phone call. So, purchasing a portable charger as a present will be an incredibly useful product.

Alternatively, if your travel companion also spends a lot of time outdoors, then you might want to consider purchasing a solar charger.

2. Travel Adapter as a Gift for International Travellers

Did you know there are actually 15 different socket and plug kinds around the globe?

It’s a good idea to give one travel adapter to an international user instead of buying (and then store) several different ones. The better ones nowadays include USB charging slots as well as a socket which means that your travel companion can charge all their electronics in one go. Whatever the location, Mexico, South America or Europe we’ve used our adapter without issue. Thus, I believe that this would be a very useful present for a person who travels.

3. Extension Cord – A Useful present for people with lots of gear

It may be thought of as the most boring gift, but having an extension cord must be an essential item in all travellers’ suitcases or backpacks. Particularly if the person is carrying lots of cameras – similar to us and requires constantly charging. Or if your traveller friend lives in hostels with just one socket that is awkwardly located. Simple as they are, they can come in handy in many instances.

Of course, if you do not want to put an extension cord in a bag as an offer to someone I completely know. In that case I recommend making a small electronic kit that looks similar to a traditional stocking or a combination of it with other unique travel gifts I’ve listed below.

4. Kindle or E-Reader – A Gift for Entertainment

If your traveller friend is also a lover of books as we are, then the Kindle Fire or Kindle Paperwhite is an absolute must when traveling. It is true that some still enjoy taking an actual book with them during a trip of a shorter duration If they’re planning for a long-term trip and needs to carry a Kindle, it will save them a lot of space.

We used our kindles each throughout our entire year-long backpacking trip , whether in a long bus ride or a flight.

5. Apple AirTags – A Great Safety Product

I believe that after all the craziness of cancelled flights and lost or undelivered luggage this year, we’ll all acknowledge that AirTags are becoming must-have items for travellers.

If you’re unaware AirTags are small tracking devices that serve as a key finder basically helping people to keep track of their personal items. Therefore, having an AirTag inside your checked-in luggage will let you know exactly where your luggage is. This could be very useful for people who are on connecting flights, so they can always check whether their bags made it to the flight or not. In addition, if your bag did not arrive, you can find out where it is which will be much easier than trying to locate it with airport personnel.

Naturally, such devices can also be handy if your backpack gets lost or stolen. I read an article about an individual was able to track their belongings back to their home after they had it stolen.

AirTags work best when you have an iPhone however, you could also test Galaxy SmartTag if you use Android.

The Best Eco Friendly gifts for travelers

Here is a list of items that don’t require you to buy a physical product, as well as those which will stop them from the use of plastics, making them the top sustainable gifts for a traveller.

6. Pure Water Water Bottle It’s the Most Eco Friendly present

Reduced single-use plastic waste is now more vital than ever. Therefore, reusable water bottles make great gifts for travelers (and to everyone else for any reason for that matter).

However, in case the person you’re buying the gift for is going to one of the countries in which drinking tap water isn’t considered safe, you could present them with a water purifying bottle like WaterWell. These bottles can also be useful for outdoor lovers and they’ll be able to fill up their bottles with safe water.

I think it’s also important to point out that the WaterWell mission extends beyond profit, and their mission is to get their customers in promoting many worthy humanitarian and environmental causes. For example they plant trees on every order that is amazing.

7. Tote Bag – A Great Toy to Help Reducing Plastic Waste

Tote bags might seem like an added item to be packed but trust us when we affirm that they can be used for multiple purposes.

Your traveling companion can use it for grocery shopping and help reduce waste from plastic. These bags were used as beach bags , or an additional bag to store all of our drinks and snacks during a long bus trip.

8. A Tree is a Gift for a Tree – the ideal present to make the Earth Greener

If you’re thinking of planting a tree Why don’t you present a tree to your traveling companion?

A tree for someone could be a surprising but original gift. We can all recognize that trees are essential to making our planet greener by cleaning the air, increasing biodiversity , and preventing soil erosion. Treedom is a place where you can get trees. Treedom it is possible to choose from a wide selection from different varieties of trees that will then be planted directly by farmers from the local area.

The gift of a tree will not only make a wonderful gift to those you love, but it’ll be a source of environmental, social and financial benefits for many communities.

9. Gift an Experience – A Fun, Memorable Gift

A gift that is a memorable experience is our most preferred type of present. Whilst physical items can be used up, stolen or damaged No one can remove the memories associated with an experience.

So, if you know that your beautiful travel buddy is going somewhere You can always surprise them with a cool activity. That way you won’t just save them some pennies and every time they recall that incredible moment, they’ll be reminded of you. Plus, you can always buy a joint ticket and could make unforgettable memories together.

Best Accessories for Travelers

10. Camera Bag is a must-have for Photographers

If your travel companion loves photography, then they’re likely to bring a large amount of camera equipment. Producing video content for Our YouTube Channel and taking photos for our travel blog, we are carrying a lot of expensive tech with us. Which of course needs storing safely and efficiently. method.

We carried our camera backpack on a daily basis whilst traveling by backpack, but we prefer our smaller shoulder bag when we’re travelling closer to home with less gear.

11. Day Backpacks – A Great Gift for any traveler

I think backpacks are also excellent gifts for travelers. They can be used as hand luggage to travel on planes, or even for the daytime trip.

If you’re looking for a more eco-friendly backpack, then I recommend Hemp And Hope which is a sustainable clothing brand I discovered by chance and fell in love with. They design their clothing and bags made in Scotland, UK and have them made in Nepal.

The hemp they use is collected in the hands of women living in Baglung or Bajura villages within the Himalayan mountains. It is then taken for transport to Kathmandu and Pokhara to be made into the products they sell.

I carried mine across various countries on our backpacking trip and stuffed every kitchen appliance in it. And after one year of regular use, it’s in the same condition as it was when I got it.

12. Fanny Pack / Bag Bag and Money Belt A Must-Have Product for Safety

Although it’s not the most distinctive present you can get, a bum bag or money belt is a practical item for anyone who travels.

Pickpockets are everywhere , no matter what you do. Therefore, keeping your valuables such as travel cards, money and mobiles close by is crucial. We use both a bum bag and a money belt when we travel, and feel secure knowing that we can be sure to keep our essential belongings in our pockets.

13. Beach Towel – The Coolest Travel Gift Ever

If you’d like your family member or friend from travel to stand out as the most cool one on the beach, you’ll want to purchase their one of Awesome Maps’ beach towels. Even though I’m not the most beach lover I actually find this towel to motivate me to go and lie in the sand for an hour.

I think this beach towel makes a perfect conversation for a conversation starter. If your traveler is on a solo excursion, I’m betting they’ll find like-minded friends straight from the start.

It’s lightweight, quick dry and also miraculously resistant to sand. You can also choose from a general bucket list map, or more specific ones, like hiking or diving ones. If this isn’t the most cool and most unique physical gift to a tourist, I don’t know what else is.

14. Dry Bag – Useful Protection for Water Lover

Staying with the water theme Another great present idea for a traveller is a dry bag.

A dry bag is completely waterproof, and its main objective is to ensure that your possessions are dry while participating in water sports. It doesn’t matter if you’re the water, canyoning, kayaking parks or simply a boat trip to keep electronics as well as other valuable things like cash dry makes this bag very practical.

15. Scarf, Sarong and Headscarf The Ultimate Multi-Purpose Gift

A big blanket scarf or sarong can be useful to any female travelers or relatives. It’s probably the sole item that I use to do so many things that I wouldn’t be able to leave the house without one.

A big scarf has served as my blanket or pillows on many overnight buses across Mexico as well as South America. It was also part of my daypack each day on our travels across Turkey to ensure that I was able to cover my shoulders and head. Also, it’s always a good layer to wear when the temperature starts to cool.

Bandanas have become a regular part of my travels. It’s not just an awesome accessory, but it also kept my head cool in warmer places , or prevent my hair from getting caught in windy weather.
